咖啡是不少人的精神粮食，但是气候变化等问题导致阿拉比卡和罗布斯塔咖啡豆产量减少，甚至有灭绝的危机；而寻找并开发新的咖啡品种，是解决问题的方法之一。马来西亚柔佛古来有一个咖啡果园，占地约20公顷，1997年开始种植较少人问津的赖比瑞卡咖啡树，目前约有1万棵。赖比瑞卡咖啡源自西非利比里亚，产量偏低导致种植成本偏高，因此较少咖啡农种植。
